Hydrogen-fueled RTG begins operation in Yokohama Port zero-emission trial

Japanese manufacturer Mitsui E&S has retrofitted a rubber-tired gantry (RTG) crane at Yokohama Port with a hydrogen fuel cell power pack, replacing its diesel generator. This marks a major step in zero-emission cargo handling, as the crane now operates entirely on hydrogen as part of an on-site demonstration project.

The initiative aims to reduce CO₂ emissions and support carbon neutrality in port operations. Mitsui E&S plans to continue developing hydrogen-powered cargo handling equipment to further reduce the environmental impact of ports.
