The EU promotes the decarbonisation of ports and vessels

The European Commission has launched a new Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) call aimed at accelerating the energy transition of maritime and inland waterway transport. The initiative will support the deployment of Onshore Power Supply (OPS) systems, charging infrastructure in TEN-T ports and related investments to strengthen port energy capabilities.

The call will also fund the retrofitting and upgrading of vessels through electric, hybrid, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol and biomethane technologies, helping reduce emissions from European maritime transport. The funding is primarily targeted at port authorities, infrastructure operators and shipping companies, with applications open until 6 October 2026.
