The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) has published its Environmental Report 2026 – EcoPortsinSights, based on environmental data provided by 73 ports across 17 European countries. The report confirms that climate change remains the number one environmental priority for European ports for the fifth consecutive year, demonstrating the growing integration of environmental and climate considerations into port management and development.
The findings reveal significant progress in emissions reduction, climate resilience and port electrification. Among participating ports, 85% have established greenhouse gas reduction targets, 60% provide Onshore Power Supply (OPS) facilities and 70% apply environmentally differentiated port dues. The report also highlights a broader shift from implementing environmental management systems towards achieving measurable outcomes and embedding sustainability into day-to-day port operations and long-term planning.
