LNG and bio‑LNG bunkering in Spain continued to grow sharply in 2025, surpassing 8 TWh supplied to vessels, more than quadrupling the volume recorded just two years earlier. This increase reflects the larger number of LNG‑powered ships and the rapid development of bunkering infrastructure, which has strengthened Spanish ports as strategic hubs for alternative maritime fuels.
The shift toward ship‑to‑ship (STS) operations has also transformed the bunkering model, with STS becoming the dominant method due to its flexibility and efficiency. Additionally, 12% of the LNG supplied was renewable bio‑LNG, marking progress toward climate‑neutral maritime transport, while Portugal entered the LNG bunkering market with initial operations in Sines.
